Hot new WordPress – 4.6 Pepper

    August 16, 2016 /

So, they call it Pepper in honor of Park “Pepper” Adams, but its still hot. New version of WordPress is always a good thing (well, version 5 would be much more fun, but…) So, don’t waste any more time, go and upgrade your WordPress installation. Please note, that default theme Twenty Sixteen would need update too. So, what’s new? As I wrote recently, there are no Open Sans font anymore. WordPress 4.6 uses native fonts instead. It is a good thing, because all modern browsers has “proper” fonts and we do not need to call Google Fonts server – it saves our time. Inline link checker, content recovery (content is…

    WordPress 4.6 RC2

    August 11, 2016 /

Over 30 changes and here it is – new, second release candidate of WordPress 4.6. There are no new features (and it is fully understandable, it’s release candidate after all) but there are one important thing for me (and I hope for many others!) – compatibility issue with PHP 7.0.9 (and PHP 7.1) has been fixed. And it is important, because I try to persuade to use PHP7 as soon as possible. It’s better than 5.6! Much better.

    WordPress 4.6 Release Candidate

    August 2, 2016 /

Yes, we’ve got it! After four betas, we’ve got RC1. What is release candidate? Well, it is almost the same as final version, but authors still may think that some of the testers can find some bugs inside. And probably we will! I use WordPress 4.6 Release Candidate on my local server (and I used beta versions as well) and it works like a charm. My plugins and themes are also compatible, so… it’s about 2 am here… I go to sleep 🙂

How to get rid of Open Sans and save admin bar?

    August 1, 2016 /

Well, it isn’t that tricky you may think. You may find a way in the network, it looks like this: [crayon-641f54d9e55aa952348658/] Easy, isn’t it? Well yes, but it has a big disadvantage. It will turn off your admin bar, because dashicons and admin-bar styles depends on open sans style sheet. So, what to do? Fortunately it is very easy – register your own Open Sans handle and… set it to nothing. Do something like this: [crayon-641f54d9e55b1394608064/] And that’s it! It works well. You may stop for a moment and ask yourself – why should I do that? Well, you don’t have to. I use it only if I want to…
